But you need to be connected to the internet of course - is that a problem perhaps Google user recommended this Original Poster Mark Ladd marked this as an answer Helpful 0 0 Gold Product Expert Salim 12119 Get Link Report Abuse Recommended Answer Hello Mark, you might be able to do that if you enable the Google Photos folder in your Drive and then install Backup and Sync and select to sync the Google Photos folder from your Drive.

This should sync the Google Photos folder onto a folder on your Mac.

Please note that all your photos would be downloaded and will take space on your Mac if you do this.

Apart from that, the Backup Sync app is a very complex combination of two separate apps from the past causing a lot of troubles also.

So thats why I was incomplete:-) Google user recommended this Original Poster Mark Ladd marked this as an answer Helpful 0 0 R Rinus Alewijnse 12119 Get Link Report Abuse Recommended Answer But apart from quite complicated app, the idea may be less sick as it looks on first sight:-) Because the files in the optional GP-folder (normally divided over years and month-folders) are pointers also which take no additional storage on Drive.

So if synced-down to laptop, they still will take not much storage either because they still act as pointers.

But I never have checked that, because I dont need such subways.

PS: it also is a dangerous loop because accidental deletion on laptop probably will cause deletion on Google Photos also.

And you need a Dropbox-app on your Mac for picking-up the synced Camera-uploads into one folder only.

And then you can move the new file into your own backupfolder-organisation.

Thereby your Dropbox-account only will contain temporary files and did not become an additional cloudstorage which needed to be payed soon.

PS: you can switch-off the syncing of the Google Photos folder in the Drive-section of the Google Backup Sync app.

Now we have the original functionality minus the seamless access with our photos.

Is there a NEW app in the future that will provide the same functionality as Drive for our photos.

I would like to access my photos through Finder on my MacBook now I have to go to a web interface to get to my photos.

It remains a great feature of Google Drive and now it is so much more difficult to use photos from Google Photos.: ( Sad.
